Sharing Sacraments

As a parent, it is important that you help your child to understand the value of the sacraments and how God works through them to offer us grace. We need the sacraments to be whole! The first step is for you to understand and appreciate them.

Plan the Party!

Why not plan a special meal to celebrate your child’s First Communion? Make your child the guest of honor, but involve him or her in the planning process, starting with:

  • Ask your child to help develop the guest list. This is a great time to involve and/or reconnect with your child’s godparents. Inviting guests to the Mass and party is a welcoming way to invite non-Catholics and non-practicing Catholics to be part of this special day.
  • Rummage around to find your child’s baptismal candle and pictures from that day. Light the candle and put the photos out for everyone to view.
  • You may want to lead a simple prayer before the meal.
  • Use this as an opportunity to gift your child with a children’s prayer book or an age-appropriate children’s Bible (that they will love to read).
